Foto 30: Celebrating Guatemalan Photography
On behalf of ArteAntigua, we’re excited to be launching La Antigua Guatemala’s first ever comprehensive web portal for the Antigua Guatemala art scene. Yet, admittedly, we could have had better timing. Our inaugural post comes just as Guatemala’s annual celebration of photography, Foto 30: Thirty Days of Photography in Guatemala, is wrapping up.
Would have. Should have. Could have. I’m simply going to go with the tried and true: Better late than never!

Photography associations do not only respond to formal theories or ideologies but also to the practical. Professionals are forced to find new methods that give visibility to their work. In this way, the collectives perform much like agencies (or image banks): as a common platform before a difficult market, or as a method of joint creation.
In “Laberinto de Miradas 3 Colectivos fotográficos en Iberoamérica”, the curator Claudí Carreras presents an unorthodox tour around the working collective, a selection of the most significant groups of the Iberamerican panorama, which works specifically within spheres of social action…
