The museum at Casa Santo Domingo impressed a recent visitor to La Antigua. The author behind Old Piles of Words suggested that Santo Domingo’s display is top notch :

One of the more interesting sights in Antigua is the museum in the Santa Domingo hotel. The five star hotel is built into the ruins of what was Antigua’s richest monastery before the 1773 earthquake. The museum is without doubt the best in Antigua.

It consists of four exhibits:

1. The grounds of the monastery itself, including restored sections and displays that include the human remains that archeologists found on the monastery grounds.
2. The museum of colonial art, which showcases mostly 17th century religious art depicting Christian saints dying in rather uncomfortable ways.
3. The Mayan art / modern glass museum, which took examples of Mayan art from the classic period (300-900 AD) and juxtaposed it against modern glass art depicting similar themes. Lots of really interesting stuff here.
4. The archeological museum, which was more Mayan classic period Mayan art from another collection.
